Spring in the Cotswolds
Summary
Join us on this springtime gambol through the glorious gardens of the Cotswolds. As the winter frosts thaw, gardens begin to bloom and we can once again enjoy the kaleidoscope of colours the spring flowers bring, from pearly white snowdrops to golden winter aconites and from daffodils to violet crocuses and pink-hued camellias.
We begin with visits to two private gardens, lovingly nurtured by their owners to maximise each garden’s natural assets and provide year-round interest. Hidcote is a maze of narrow paths and secret gardens combined with dramatic vistas, while Batsford Arboretum is home to impressive displays of spring flowering bulbs. We visit the painstakingly restored gardens at Highnam Court and the Painswick Rococo Gardens, an impressive garden squeezed into a valley that has been restored to its former glory by owners Lord and Lady Dickinson. Last but not least we visit Sudeley Castle, which not only has fabulous gardens but a history of royal connections stretching back a thousand years - Henry VIII’s last and surviving wife Katherine Parr is buried here.
