From Normandy to The Netherlands featuring Floriade
We once had the pleasure of organising a tour of northern France, Belgium and The Netherlands for a private group of garden enthusiasts. Such was the success of this holiday that we decided to offer it to a wider audience and let you enjoy some of the finest gardens in this ever-popular corner of Europe.
There are no airport queues or security checks to endure as we set off in traditional style and take the ferry to Calais. Among the garden highlights here in Normandy and Picardy are Le Bois des Moutiers and Le Vasterival, Monet’s garden at Giverny and the remakable floating gardens of Les Hortillonages in Amiens. Crossing into Belgium we see masses of roses at the Castle of Coloma, the Hemelrijk Garden, whose creators were assisted by Russell Page and the spectacular Herkenrode Garden and Wespelaar Arboretum, considered to be the best in the world. In The Netherlands we visit De Wiersse, which has been described as the most beautiful garden in the country; the fabulous water gardens of Ada Hofman and the extravagantly planted garden of Mien Ruys, who dominates the story of 20th century gardening in Holland. We also take the opportunity to visit the Floriade exhibition at Almere, one more highlight in a tour that is bursting with outstanding horticultural delights.
