Summary

We travel through the beautiful Cotswolds to our hotel in historic Salisbury, a medieval cathedral city nestled in the heart of Wiltshire. Our first visit is to Bowood, the home of the Marquis and Marchioness of Lansdowne and a treasure trove of art and artefacts set in stunning gardens. We visit Corsham Court, a house that dates back to the 16th century with parklands designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, and  Iford Manor, home to spectacularly manicured gardens designed by Harold Peto, where we are joined for a twilight tour and Champagne by the owner William Cartwright-Hignett. Old Wardour Castle is ours to explore on day three. Originally built in the 14th century it is thought to have been inspiration for the castle in the Hollywood blockbuster ‘Robin Hood – Prince of Thieves’. That afternoon we head to the banks of the river Avon where we find Heale Gardens, home to the Rasch family who have tended to these elegant gardens for generations. We also have the chance to visit Salisbury Cathedral, a leading example of early English Gothic architecture that was built during the 13th century and is home to the best preserved of only four surviving original copies of Magna Carta. Our final stop is Lydiard Park and House, a stunning Palladian Grade I listed house where we can enjoy a guided tour with a spot of afternoon tea before heading back to our original joining points.
