Tom Hart Dyke
Tom was plant hunting in ‘The Darien Gap’ region of Colombia in 2000, an area that had been largely abandoned by all except warring guerrilla factions, when he and his travelling companion were kidnapped.
During his nine-month ordeal the idea for ‘The World Garden’ was born, when he spent one afternoon, which he had been told would be his last alive, planning and designing his fantasy garden. He meticulously drew plans for a World Garden which contained plants he had collected from around the globe in their native countries. Thankfully, this was not the pair’s last afternoon and they were released later that year. On his return to Lullingstone Castle Tom began turning his jungle vision into reality, busily building his dream garden in the 18th century Walled Garden. We will be privileged to have him as our guide.
