Graham Bruce

Graham is from Aberdeenshire, but for 29 years was a resident of Durness, Sutherland, in the far north of the Highlands, where he was the headteacher in the local school. Since qualifying as a guide in 2014 he has toured extensively in central and northern Scotland including Orkney and Western Islands. He has also carried out day tours in Aberdeen city and shire as well as to whisky distilleries. He has led specialist tours to historic homes and ones involving steam traction and travelling by train. Extended touring, where there is time to get to grips with the culture and scenery of Scotland, is something he particularly enjoys doing.

Day by Day Itinerary

Western Scotland

We depart from our designated pick-up points and begin our journey into the historic heart of western Scotland, travelling first to the ancient town of Paisley, home to one of the country’s most important ecclesiastical buildings. Paisley Abbey, originally founded in 1163 by Walter FitzAlan, the High Steward of Scotland, has long been a centre of spiritual and cultural life. Once a powerful Cluniac monastery, the abbey played a key role in Scotland’s medieval history and is believed to be the burial site of the six-year-old Marjorie Bruce, mother of Robert II. Today, the abbey’s striking Gothic architecture, stained glass windows and atmospheric nave offer a poignant glimpse into the past. Following our visit, we continue to the seaside town of Troon and check in to the South Beach Hotel, located just steps from the shore.
