Day by Day Itinerary
We depart on our flight from London to Pisa. After free time for lunch, a very special private visit of the Toriggiani Gardens awaits, the most famous monumental gardens in Florence and owned by the Marquise Toriggiani. This botanical garden is well respected for the extraordinary wealth of tree and plant species from all across the globe and it also houses incredible works of art set amidst the vegetation. Various sculptures are still present in the garden, including a statue of Osiris standing sentinel at the entrance and the Baroque work of Baratta depicting Actaeon fleeing after seeing Diana, along with the marble group of Greek chisel depicting a bull shot down by a lion. There are also the statues of Janus and Esculapius, the classical group of Pio Fedi, representing the young Pietro Torrigiani with Seneca, plus the marble column dedicated to the great botanist and mycologist Pier Antonio Micheli, who worked assiduously in this garden, and with other talented naturalists, founded the Italian Botanical Society in 1716.
