Everything You Need To Know About The Chelsea Flower Show 2022

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show will return to its usual May slot for the first time since 2019 this year and we couldn't be more excited. 

Taking place from 24 - 28 May at The Royal Hospital in Chelsea, London, this highly anticipated horticultural highlight will return with a bang, shining a spotlight on wild plants, naturalistic design, and how plants can positively impact our mental health.

There is much to look forward to at this year's event, including a garden by Andy Smith-Williams that demonstrates how plants can reconnect communities and positively impact mental health, one from designer Lottie Delamain that is tipped to be the first-ever garden at Chelsea solely featuring plants that can be used to make or dye clothes, and then there will be Charlie Hawkes' The Wilderness Foundation UK Garden, which will showcase the immersive power of plants to enhance our connection to the natural world.

Adam Frost offers tips for Chelsea first-timers

We spoke to Gardeners' World star Adam Frost about first-time visitors to the RHS Chelsea Flower and how they can maximise their time at the event. He had some helpful tips!

“Chelsea is such a great show for finding new and exciting plants. I would say to people to look at smaller sections of planting for ideas. The size of the show gardens can be quite overwhelming, but if you just focus on a small collection of plants with in a bigger border it can still provide lots of ideas about combining colour, textures, shape and size. The show is also a great place to look at materials and structures. There is always a fantastic range of different shapes, sizes and styles with unusual construction methods or new materials on display. Make sure you have plenty of space on your camera for taking lots of photos!”

Want to know a little more about the flower show itself? Well, many of the 30-plus gardens exhibiting at this year's event will highlight the importance of sustainability and the natural environment, and the RHS says that "designers will be using plants that promote biodiversity including flowering hawthorn, hazel, and woodland trees such as crab apple, sweet chestnut and hornbeam."
