  • How to Dress - Modest clothing is recommended for built up towns and cities. Less conservative dress is acceptable at resorts and beaches.
  • Cultural Differences - Madagascar's culture is a blend of the African mainland, French history and nearby countries on the Indian ocean. Madagascar abides by restrictions known as Fady which are passed down from generations and are believed to bring bad luck if disobeyed. Approximately 20% of the population are Roman Catholic.
  • Language - Malagasy and French are the official languages of Madagascar. English is widely spoken in major cities.
  • Tipping - In Madagascar, if a service charge is already added to the bill then tipping is not necessary. If a service charge is not added it is customary to add 10%.
