Waterford and Cork

Our bases in Cork and Waterford, make a fabulous foundation for a journey visiting the very best gardens this corner of Ireland has to offer, personally selected by our host and tour manager, Trevor Edwards.

Ask us about the multifarious charms of world-beloved Irish capital Dublin, and we could keep going for hours. But venturing further afield on the Emerald Isle holds rich rewards indeed, not least a hoard of horticultural gems. Explore colourful collections of camellias at Tourin House; rare and tender trees at Fota Arboretum; island gardens, and one of the largest collections of plants anywhere in the world, plus private gardens owned by passionate plantsmen and women, who are kind enough to give us personal guided tours of their treasured outdoor havens.

Day by Day Itinerary

We depart on a direct flight from London for Cork, where, on arrival, we will join our coach for a visit to Fota Arboretum and Garden, home to one of the finest collections of rare and tender trees throughout the British Isles. Lunch is available here (not included).

In the afternoon we continue to the private garden of Hester Forde at Coosheen. Situated on the estuary of Cork harbour Coosheen houses a unique collection of plants and it has been described by Shirley Lanigan in her book The 100 Best Gardens in Ireland as ‘nothing short of a tour de force’. Hester has an insatiable appetite for plants which makes this a must-see garden for the plant enthusiast.

We continue to our hotel in Cork, where dinner is served this evening.
