The Vineyards of Kent & Sussex with Susy Atkins (Country Living/Good Housekeeping)
English wines have enjoyed a growing reputation for quality and sophistication in recent years and the fertile countryside of Kent and Sussex is home to an increasing number of top-quality,
award-winning vineyards and wineries. What could be more enticing than a behind-the-scenes tour of a vineyard on a typical English summer’s day, followed by a tasting of the finished product and a spot of lunch or a delicious dinner?
Join us for four such tours and a special appearance by Susy Atkins, the award-winning drinks columnist and wine expert who will share with us her knowledge of and passion for the wonderful world of wine.
Our tour gets underway with a visit to the Mount Vineyard in Shoreham, Kent, winner of the ‘Wine Tasting Experience of the Year’ in 2018, where we enjoy a tour of the vineyard and wine tasting, along with a light lunch. We will be joined here by Susy Atkins, who will also have dinner with us in the hotel later in the evening and give a talk on wine and wine tasting.
The following day we continue with a tour and tasting at the Hush Heath Vineyard in Kent, followed by an afternoon visit to Sissinghurst, the famous Kent garden created by the writers Vita
Sackville-West and Harold Nicolson in the 1930s and the perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely summer’s afternoon. Later we continue to the Chapel Down winery, where a tour and tasting is followed by a special three course dinner with wine at the adjacent restaurant, the Swan Wine Kitchen.
Our final day sees us in the neighbouring county of East Sussex as we explore the Bluebell Vineyard, sample some of their wines and enjoy a catered picnic lunch before returning to London.

Day 1 – Sunday 27 June 2021 -
We depart from our pick-up points in London and Gatwick and head towards Kent and our first visit, the award-winning Mount Vineyard near Shoreham. Here we will have a guided tour through the vines and learn about the wonders of English viticulture, followed by a tasting of five different wines. Exclusive Event: we will be joined here by wine expert Susy Atkins, who will share her own insights into English wines.
We continue to our hotel, the 4-star Spa Hotel, Royal Tunbridge Wells. Dinner will be served in the evening, after which Susy Atkins will give a talk and host a Question and Answer session on the subject of wine in general.
Day 2 – Monday 28 June 2021 -
This morning, after a leisurely breakfast, we will set off for the Hush Heath Estate near Tonbridge, which has been producing award-winning wines since 2002, with their flagship Balfour Brut Rosé being the first English sparkling wine to be served in British Airways First Class and the official English wine of the 2012 London Olympics. Our guided tour of the vineyard is followed by a tasting of six wines, ciders or beers from the comfort of The View tasting room.
After lunch (not included) in a nearby pub, we continue to the magnificently manicured gardens of Sissinghurst. This famous garden was created by Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicolson from 1930 onwards and became the most admired English Garden of its time. Sissinghurst is a large connoisseurs’ garden consisting of a series of small romantic areas enclosed by the surviving parts of an Elizabethan mansion. It is surely as close to gardening perfection as you can get, and it continues to be one of the most-copied flower gardens in the world.
Later in the afternoon we move on to the Chapel Down vineyard for a behind-the-scenes guided tour, followed by a tutored tasting of their award-winning still and sparkling wines. We then make our way to the adjacent Swan Wine Kitchen and enjoy a three-course dinner with wine.
Our coach will return us to the hotel after dinner.

We then return to our original departure points.
