Legends of the Rhône
From £2,095
Summary
To cruise the River Rhône in the south-east of France is to follow in the wake of countless travellers over thousands of years, from Romans and Christians to popes and painters.
Expect all the refinements of a French river cruiser with a taste of the cuisine for which Lyon and this part of France is so famous and a friendly, welcoming crew. A wide range of shore excursions take us into the countryside and to the great towns and cities of the region. Start in Lyon and discover the narrow passageways so typical of the city and visit the once-great abbey at Cluny. Encounter impressive Roman remains in Vienne and Arles, the latter indelibly linked with Vincent Van Gogh, marvel at the magnificent Pope’s Palace in Avignon and tour Viviers with its many fine monuments. Finally see the white horses and pink flamingos of the Camargue salt-marshes or enjoy a tasting of wine and other local delicacies in Tournon.
We sail on the MS Rhône Princess, a 4-anchor category ship with capacity for 138 passengers over two decks. All cabins have en-suite bathrooms with shower and wc, TV, safe, air-conditioning and wi-fi. All have windows to the outside, the largest being on the upper deck. There is a lounge and restaurant on the upper deck with all round panoramic views and you can also enjoy the passing countryside from the partially-covered sun deck. All meals are included along with wine or beer.
