Summary

Discover the legendary scenery, charming traditions and extraordinary culture of North Wales on this tour of a collection of the area’s most impressive castles and magnificent historical houses.

In the town of Llangollen on the banks River Dee, Plas Newydd has been transformed into a vision of gothic style and it is our first step back in time. Sitting at the apex of a craggy ridge, Harlech Castle is a medieval fortification that stands sentinel over the sprawling dunes below, with the rugged peaks of Snowdonia as the castle’s dramatic backdrop. Castell Deudraeth is a 19th Century Castle house built by Dafydd Williams, the first Liberal MP for Meirionnyd and known as a ‘Jewel in the Welsh crown’, while Plas Brondaw is a showcase for Sir Clough Williams-Ellis’ talent for landscape design. Caernarfon Castle is world renowned for an exemplary example of medieval fortifications and was the scene of Prince Charles’ investiture as Prince of Wales in 1969. With views across the Ceiriog Valley, the Grade II listed house of Brynkinalt was built by Sir Edward Trevor in 1612 and over the years has been extended to include gothic style features including the castellation’s and turrets. Finally there is Bodrhyddan Hall, a dazzling Grade I listed Victorian stately house, home to hundreds of acres of gardens, parkland and woodland and an astonishing place to visit.

Our hotel: Rossett Hall Hotel seamlessly combines a Grade II listed Georgian mansion with elegant accommodation. The hotel opened in 1987 with many long serving members of staff ensuring high-quality and caring service from an extremely knowledgeable team. The bedrooms feature free standing baths, HD TVs, Tea and Coffee facilities, a safe, fridge and complimentary Wi-Fi. The perfect place to retire to after busy days exploring this delightful corner of Wales.
