It's December 31st and the clock is about to strike midnight. Where would you like to be? If you haven't yet made your arrangements for this year we have an irresistible invitation for you: join us for a Scottish New Year celebration you'll never forget. Ignore the pandemonium of Times Square, and skip the drunken crowds surging the length of the Thames. We have something far more laid-back and refined to offer: a splendid three-night stay in the exceptional setting of the Perthshire countryside, as guests at the welcoming four-star luxury hotel, Dunkeld House.
Bring your favourite black-tie finery for a Happy Hogmanay of drinks, dinner and dancing in the heart of Highland Perthshire. Swap swarming streets for natural forests; the stress of the taxi ranks for comfortable, pre-planned coach transfers, and the same old tired conversation for the ever convivial company of like-minded Brightwater travellers. Beginning on 30th December, and seeing us in to early 2018, our trip blends local sightseeing with lavish, lounging meals; low-key woodland walks with world-famous views.
We have afternoon tea, a piper and a pianist, midnight drinks and stovies, not to mention an authentic Scottish breakfast every morning. With time to take in some of Dunkeld's 280 acres, and enjoy the famed Perthshire hospitality, this is set to be an encounter with Scotland at its very best, on the merriest night of the year.
This morning we depart from our pick-up points, breaking our journey into deepest Perthshire with a stop at Crieff. This lovely little market town was once Scotland's main cattle trading centre. These days it is a peaceful place, well known for its local whisky.
After an opportunity to eat lunch in town, we carry on to our final destination: the majestic Dunkeld House Hotel, paying a visit to the wee and wonderful Sma' Glen along the way.
The staff at Dunkeld welcome us there with an indulgent afternoon tea. Later, our dinner is served accompanied by the hotel's own live pianist.
Our New Year's Eve is all set to be action-packed – so a full Scottish breakfast makes an ideal start. The morning sees us out and about in a comfortable coach tour of Perthshire's towns and countryside. Our break at the famous Queen's View scenic point is bound to be especially memorable.
After a nice time nosing around the independent shopping spot, the House of Bruar, we have a free afternoon back at our hotel in order to prepare for the evening's celebrations: a decadent drinks reception with piper, a black tie gala dinner with Ceilidh band, and a joyful midnight toast with which to herald in 2018.
There's no need to rush about this morning: instead we take it easy with a leisurely time in the stunning surroundings of our hotel. After a hearty full Scottish breakfast the day is all ours. Take a walk along the banks of the fast-flowing River Tay, rejuvenate in the on-site luxury spa, or simply laze in Dunkeld's lovely lounge. For those who fancy more of a leg-stretcher, there is also an option to walk at the Hermitage Pleasure Ground – a network of forested paths and follies dating back to the 18th century.
A live pianist plays at dinner this evening, making our last night particularly special.
We depart from Dunkeld and return by comfortable transfer to our pick-up points.
