Monday 24 April 2017

Travel to Milan, where a comfortable coach takes you north to Lake Como, and your base, the lakeside Hotel Metropole Suisse, which has stunning views across the water.

The afternoon is free to explore or perhaps take a boat trip on the lake (not included). Enjoy a welcome drink with the group this evening, followed by dinner.

Explore the beautiful Lake Como and the gardens of Villa Carlotta, clad in spring azalea blossom, where its distinct microclimate sees local and exotic plants flourishing side by side.

After lunch in Tremezzo (not included) you will hop on a boat to the romantic Balbianello, for a VIP arrival at its water gates. Used as a backdrop to the James Bond film Casino Royale, it has breathtaking lake views and topiary cut by scissors alone.

Today you will head to Villa Cicogna Mozzoni for a private guided tour with the owner of this 16th century garden.

After a picnic lunch (included), you will explore Villa Taranto, an early 20th century garden created to showcase an extraordinary botanical collection. BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine editor, Lucy Hall, joins the rest of the tour.

Thursday 27 April 2017

Today you will discover the famous Borromean Islands, starting with a cruise to Isola Madre, haven to tropical and Mediterranean plants. Then on to Isola Pescatori, with its narrow streets full of atmosphere, for lunch (not included).

After lunch you will sail to Isola Bella, where Monty joins you to share his highlights of this extraordinary Baroque palace and gardens, built in the 17th century for parties and power.

During an evening drinks reception, Monty will give a talk, before joining the group for dinner.

Friday 28 April 2017

After a delicious final breakfast, you will travel to Villa Pallavicino in nearby Stresa to explore the beautiful gardens and zoological park. Later you will return to Milan airport for your flight to the UK.
