There could be no more relaxing way to enjoy the Dutch countryside at bulbfield time than to watch it slip by from the comfort of your own river cruise ship. Once again we will sail on the MV Prinses Juliana, a spacious and well-appointed river cruiser which has proved to be the ideal vessel for this highly popular tour. With its large, comfortable forward lounge, a well-stocked bar and a separate restaurant, the Prinses Juliana has a tasteful and relaxed ambience. There is also an attractive, partially-covered sun deck area and the friendly and attentive crew will cater for your every need. The cabins are relatively spacious with twin berths, shower and toilet, and all have large windows which offer excellent views.

As we cruise the rivers Rhine and Waal and the connecting network of canals, we will pass through attractive towns and historic cities such as Amsterdam, Arnhem, Nijmegen, Utrecht and Dordrecht.

The most important thing about spring in Holland is, of course, flowers - and there will be flowers galore. We will visit the world famous gardens of Keukenhof, the bulb grower's magnificent display of all the different tulip, daffodil and hyacinth varieties - over 6 million bulbs are planted annually. The grand gardens of Het Loo Palace are now recognised as one of Europe's finest formal gardens, a late Dutch interpretation of the Italian-French garden dating from the first quarter of the seventeenth century.

Day 1
We depart from London or Edinburgh (other airports may be available on request) on a direct flight to Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport. Upon arrival we board our coach and make our way to central Amsterdam where we will join our ship, the M V Prinses Juliana. Prior to dinner there will be a welcome reception with the chance to meet the crew and ask any questions you may have. After dinner you are again free to explore the city at leisure. Alternatively we have arranged an optional one hour "Illuminated Canal Cruise" through the narrow canals in the centre of Amsterdam - the perfect way to see this unique city (price to be confirmed.)

Day 2
This morning following breakfast we will visit one of the world’s biggest flower auctions where you will be dazzled by the colours and smells of the blooms. Following our visit we will rejoin the Prinses Juliana where lunch will be served. We then set sail into the Dutch countryside to Arnhem where we will dock for the night.

Day 3
After breakfast this morning we will visit the gardens at Het Loo Palace near to the charming town of Apeldoorn. This was the medieval castle of Prince William of Orange and is now recognised as one of Europe's finest formal gardens. When the Dutch Royal Family decided that it would no longer use the palace in 1969 the Government opted to turn it into a museum fully restoring the formal seventeenth century garden to its original state. The palace's type of baroque garden is unique to the Netherlands. It is a late Dutch interpretation of the Italian-French garden dating from the first quarter of the seventeenth century. The exotic flowers and plants and the constant supply of fresh water for the fountains must have made the gardens of Het Loo a spectacular sight worth seeing even then. Your guide will advise you on the best areas to visit. We return to our ship in time for lunch on board. In the afternoon we have another relaxing cruise along the River Waal to Dordrecht where we will dock for the night.

Day 4
This morning we say 'goodbye' to the MV Prinses Juliana, and head to possibly the most famous gardens in the world - Keukenhof. This is the bulb grower’s display of all the different tulip, daffodil and hyacinth varieties. Over 6 million bulbs are planted annually and around 1 million visitors pass through it from mid March to mid May.

Later we will return to Amsterdam airport in time to catch our return flight to our departure airport.
