The Royal Horticultural Society will once again bring a spectacular celebration of flowers and gardening to the north-west of England with the Tatton Park Flower Show. Set against the splendour of Tatton Park’s 1000-acre deer park, the show will be full of attractions, imaginative and colourful displays, original back-to-back small gardens and exciting show gardens. From the latest trends in plants and garden furniture to helpful people who can offer advice on how to make the most of your own garden, this classic English flower show has everything you need – and didn’t know you needed - for your garden to flourish.
While we are here in Cheshire we will also visit four notable gardens. The herbaceous borders at Arley Hall are one of the great garden sights in England, beautifully maintained and always delightful.
There are also old walled gardens with good mixed borders and a simple terraced walk above a ha-ha. The walled garden at Norton Priory has won four “Britain in Bloom” awards and provides a tranquil and timeless experience. Themed areas include old roses, herbaceous borders and herbs, along with idyllic woodland gardens. In Chester we discover an award-winning plantswoman’s garden where interesting iron work and willows mingle with the flowers in the mixed beds. The garden also boasts a courtyard area with an ancient espalier pear tree and a Victorian conservatory with bougainvillaea. Finally, there is Ness Botanic Gardens which has a host of features including herbaceous borders, climbing plants and lush water gardens.
